Hippocampus comes

Also known as 'tigertail seahorse'.

H. comes grow to approximately 5-6" in length and are very slender relative to most other seahorses. They have a low, rounded coronet with 5 distinct points or knobs. They have a long, slender snout and small, knob-like spines. H. comes are generally black and yellow or white and yellow, with prominent rings along the tail which often continue along the body.

In the wild, H. comes is found in the waters around Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam. Their natural habitat is generally less than 10m and a maximum of 20m depth; they are often found among coral reefs, sponge gardens and floating sargassum. H. comes and H. barbouri are two seahorse species that seem most at home among stony coral.

H. comes have pelagic fry, which are very small at birth and are generally considered difficult to rear.

Our H. comes are captive bred and tank raised. Recommended temperature is 72-78F with occasional temperatures up to 80F acceptable, but not recommended. Ideal temperature range, and the temperature that they have been raised at is 75-78F.

All of our available H. comes are juveniles/sub-adults and do not display genders. They are approximately 3" long and are generally between 4-6 months old. In general, our H. comes are black, with white rings and have zebra like coloration. Some may have some yellow along their tails. However, seahorse coloration is very much dependent on environment and mood, so color is not guaranteed.
