About the role:

As an Applied Scientist, you will work closely with the product and research teams. You will be responsible for leading the initiative to develop machine learning and deep learning models for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to natural language understanding, spoken dialog policy learning, natural language generation, and product search. You will also explore new methods to learn from data with semi-supervised or unsupervised approaches.

Your contributions will directly impact our customers and ultimately improve the overall user experience.

In this role you will:

You will help define the engineering culture and processes with us as we build out the team together. You are passionate about best practices, and know how to ensure your product is performant and high quality. Most importantly, you are skilled at finding the iterative path forward, helping your team take products from MVP to competence to excellence.

  • Design and implement machine learning and deep learning models to address specific business and customer requirements

  • Directly contribute to the design and development. of semi-supervised and unsupervised learning methods to improve our models

  • Collaborate with user interaction designers and software developers to create prototypes that can e commercialized and delivered on our platform

  • Create core components for our services (engines, frameworks, and libraries)

  • Publish your research and file patents


  • Graduate degree (MS or Ph.D.) in computer science or a related field

  • Research experience in machine learning (classification, tagging, regression, clustering, and reinforcement learning)

  • Research experience in deep learning and related frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Keras

  • Ability to integrate and adapt developed production models to satisfy product requirements

  • Proficiency with Python

  • Experience with Python data science/statistics/machine learning stack

  • Academic publication at peer-reviewed international conferences and in journals

  • Ability to adapt and learn new tasks quickly and switch between them as required

  • Experience working with language/speech data

  • Experience working with an agile environment

  • Relentless desire for innovation balanced with business needs and customer expectations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in dealing well with ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results in an agile, dynamic environment

  • Experience with distributed computing environments such as Spark

  • Experience with GCP and AWS cloud platforms

  • Experience shipping innovative, successful consumer products

  • Experience with deep learning and natural language processing algorithms
